The thing about Carrot Yam is that his name isn’t Carrot Yam. He was given this name by a precocious three year old, who squeezed him and nuzzled him so much that this Fwen decided to
just let it go. So that might be a first step in knowing Carrot Yam—figure out his name. Or come up with a new one!
 
Carrot Yam’s ability to let things go makes others feel relaxed, cared for, and heard. He knows when to give up an argument, such as the debate he once had with Weeba over whether crushed beetle paste is a food or medicine (it’s a food, obviously).
 
His easy-going nature helps others see that even the material things we like are ephemeral, and that we must learn to let them go, rather than fight life’s current. It also gives him an aura of mystery.

However, sometimes he lets too much go, like, literally. One time, all the Fwens were having a pancake party while floating down the river on banana peel canoes. They were laughing, story telling, and twirling so much that even cautious Deeda wanted to join the fun.
 
Before splashing the water, Deeda asked Carrot Yam to hold his pancake. “Of course!” said Carrot Yam. But Carrot Yam, while in a fit of laughter, forgot that he was holding the pancake and let get washed away by the river.

“No harm done, Carrot thought, “it’s just a pancake, and if one isn’t prepared to a pancake go, perhaps one should bring on a river.” He offered to make Deeda a new pancake, but Deeda was inconsolable.
 
“No” said Deeda, “I made that pancake last year. It’s irreplaceable.”
 
“I’m very sorry,” said Carrot, “You are right. I cannot bring back your special pancake. I see how hurtful that is. Tell me how I can best make things right. And hopefully, we can create more memories together full of different, but equally irreplaceable pancakes.”

They are very good friends.
